Younnie

What I like about my job as a DSP is that it gives me a sense of purpose that I can directly contribute to the well-being and quality of lives of the individuals I support by empowering them to live dignified and more independent lives.

My name is Younnie and I have been with SPIN 2 years, 11 months and 27 days. What I like about my job as a DSP is that it gives me a sense of purpose that I can directly contribute to the well-being and quality of lives of the individuals I support by empowering them to live dignified and more independent lives. I am proud to be a DSP and there is no one particular time. I have learned so much from my supervisors and the individuals that I support. One of my favorite moments and excitement as a DSP, is seeing how the individuals looked forward to me coming to work daily, and if I was not at work, they made it a point to ask me where I was once they saw me. The reward is learning that I make a difference in their lives, and they noticed.  When I listened to their needs and communicate that to my Assisting Director and that need is met, I get a sense of pride and the feeling of accomplishment. For instance, I had an individual who wanted to connect to the community by going to church and by me advocating for her, that need was met. She is now an active member of that community and that is one of my many proudest moments.
