SPIN’s Fall Ball Classic, Clinic and Tournament Raises Funds for Adults with Autism and Intellectual Disability

PHILADELPHIA (September 7, 2017) – SPIN (Special People in Northeast) will host its first annual Fall Ball Classic on Saturday, September 9 to raise funds for adults with autism and intellectual disability. Held at the Renegade’s Kelly Bolish Gymnasium, the University of Pennsylvania’s Women’s Basketball Team will teach adults with disability the game of basketball. Following the clinic, a shooting competition and 3-on-3 tournament will be open to all attendees. Marshall Harris of Comcast SportsNet (CSN) will be the event’s master of ceremonies.

 

“Basketball is enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities,” said Frank Brown, corporate officer of SPIN’s Residential Services division. “This event will help adults we support to live a life of possibilities in the community. We are so thankful for everyone’s support, especially to Marshall, UPenn Women’s Basketball Team, The Renegade’s and teams playing in the 3-on-3 Tournament who have helped make this event so much fun.”

 

Marshall Harris, anchor/reporter from CSN will kick-off the fun at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 9 as he emcees the Skills & Drills Clinic led by the University of Pennsylvania’s Women’s Basketball Team. The 2016-2017 Ivy League Champions will work hands-on with adults supported by SPIN to practice dribbling, shooting, defense, passing and more. Following the clinic, a shooting competition open to everyone will be held at 11:30 a.m. The 3-on-3 tournament will begin at 12 p.m. and feature 13 teams raising funds for SPIN.

 

Event proceeds will benefit more than 200 adults who receive who receive round-the-clock support at SPIN homes in the community. Direct support professionals—employees who provide this critical care—helped to organize the Fall Ball Classic and recruit tournament players.
