SPIN joins Signing of Inclusive Parks and Playgrounds Law

[vc_row row_type=”row” text_align=”left” css_animation=””][vc_column][vc_column_text]On Wednesday, August 24th, Mayor Kenney and Philadelphia city officials gathered at Germantown’s Wister Playground to sign the Inclusive Parks and Playgrounds Bill, a new law that requires all renovated and redesigned city parks to serve the needs of people of all ages and abilities. The law includes a provision for play equipment that complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and special play areas for children with autism, intellectual and developmental disability.

Judy Dotzman, Executive Director of SPIN and Vice-President of the Philadelphia Alliance of Community Service Providers, emphasized the law’s inclusive message to local families:

“An ADA-compliant swing and equipment for all age groups tells a family of a child with disability that they belong. A commitment to make all playgrounds and parks throughout the city inclusive tells each and every one of us that all people are valued and important and that everyone belongs in our communities.”
